Jacket Racket: Bill Shakespeare

I was browsing the other day in Barnes and Noble when I came across their Shakespeare rack. I don't know if these are new, but I'd never seen them before. Little delicious paperbacks--ready to slip into my bag. So simple, yet so expressive. If I didn't already have so many copies, I'd be collecting them all. Take a look. Love em! +/-

Jacket Racket: Nancy Drew

It's no secret that Nancy Drew is a bit of a franchise. She's morphed over the years--being reinvented time after time as new generations discover her. It made me curious to see how she's evolved over the years.

However, there's a serious following of the "yellow book" originals. I found a challenge recently where those participating must read those specific original texts, with the yellow stamp of approval. =) I'm sorry to say that I've never read one Nancy Drew novel (gasp!), but I think I've been sufficiently entinced. My first book is planned TBR!

These were some of my favorite "yellow" covers that I came across. Love that 60s hair!

And a million other lucrative Nancy endeavors . . .

Jacket Racket: Jane Austen 2

These (relatively) new UK Jane Austen covers really caught my eye! I love the bright colors and the "paper cutout" look. They are very simple, but elegant, I think. I also enjoyed some of the things that were included on the covers from the books: Anne facing toward the bottled ship, Emma playing cards, Fanny's cousins talking behind her back. I only wish I could purchase them! Those lucky Brits.

Jacket Racket: Going Retro

I got recommendations from some friends of older books to revisit. As I was looking around at reviews online, I was really struck with the older cover art. It's funny how certain styles go in and out of fashion. I thought I'd share them with you.

I absolutely love this 60/70s covers for Thomas Hardy's classic Far From the Maddening Crowd! (I also love the book prices . . . hehe). I wish I could get my hands on a copy. Hardy is "hardly" what you would consider retro, so I think it's fun when these book covers are reworked. I found the modern cover below googling around, and I simply adore it. Looks so idyllic and divine. Sigh. Now I just need to read it.

I also really liked these sort of creepy comic-book looking covers for Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr. Ripley. They seem so appropriate--complete with floating heads. Love it. It's interesting to see how the more modern versions took a different spin--making it look eerie with black and white and then with inverted colors. Interesting.

Jacket Racket: Wuthering Heights

As I was browsing some reviews from one of my all time favorite books, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, I came across this gorgeous new cover art! Unfortunately, this cover only cooresponds to the Kindle verson, but I still love it: the crispness of the black and white contrast, the eerie leafless tree, Catherine's blank expression--delicious. Enjoy!

Jacket Racket: Jane Austen

I ran across these beautiful Austen covers from Vintage Classics, and they are so sweet and charming! It's too bad I've already spent my lifetime Austen allowance (probably) already. Have a look! (Visit the designer's site here.)
